The City of Firefly Squid and Deep Sea Water

Namerikawa

Welcome to the Namerikawa Homepage!

In the Northeast part of Toyama Prefecture surrounded by the majestic Northern Alps lies the green landscape, rich earth, and refreshing atmosphere that is Namerikawa City. Home to Mount Tateyama and Toyama Bay, Namerikawa has a population of 33,000. Its residents enjoy the steadily increasing development of fishing and agriculture industry as well as the expanding commerce. As of recent years, Namerikawa has been known throughout Japan for its famous firefly squid and deep sea water.
From mid-April to early May one can go on a special viewing boat to see the unique, glowing squid light up the bay. Also, from March to May Namerikawa's Firefly Museum is open to all. The only Firefly Squid museum in the world, this museum allows visitors to learn about firefly squid and see the lively squid in captivity.
In addition, there is the Toufukujino Natural Park. This park not only has breathtaking views during the day, but also beautiful views at night. It is also equipped with a total of 3 park golf courses with 27 holes and other facilities. For accommodation in the park, we invite you to stay at the SL House, (an old steam locomotive turned into a small hotel).
This homepage provides information about Namerikawa and we hope that it deepens both your understanding and interest about our city.
If you have an opportunity, I hope you will come visit and enjoy our city Namerikawa, where the people are enthusiastic, the industry is active, and the city itself is full of life.
